About the programme

The programme targets beginners in the area of service provision for children with disabilities and other special needs in inclusive settings. Ideally, it is an eye opener to care givers, teachers, parents and others intending to develop careers working with children with special educational needs.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the programme, candidates must satisfy the University entry requirements i.e. a minimum mean grade of D+ in KCSE

Programme Structure

The programme consists of taught course work and examinations. The course is structured into units. One unit is described as of three contact hours per week. Students are required to take all the prescribed units.

ECSE 0101: Introduction to Special and Inclusive Education     
ECSE 0103: Introduction to children with cognitive and related disabilities   
ECSE 0105: Introduction to children with sensory impairment
ECSE 0107:

Introduction to children with physical and other health impairments

ECSE 0109:

Introduction to Children with Emotional and Behavioural problems 

 

Year 1, Semester 2  

ECSE 0102:

Introduction to children with Communication Difficulties      

ECSE 0104: Introduction to children with Specific Learning Difficulties
ECSE 0106: Early Identification and Referral of Children with Special need      
ECSE 0108:

Educational Resources to Support Children with Special Needs in Inclusive settings  

ECSE 0110: Poverty Alleviation Programmes for Individuals with Disabilities
