Bachelor Of Education (Special Needs Education) With IT

About the Programme

The Bachelor of Education (Special Needs Education) with Information Technology (IT) is a multifaceted programme designed to provide students with skills, knowledge and attitudes that enable them to support learners with diverse needs.The program is based on the understanding that individual learners have diverse need and require an adapted and inclusive environment. This will enable them to develop emotionally, intellectually, physically and socially. The said inclusive environment supports sharing of ideas and the use of IT.

 

Admission Requirements

To qualify for admission into Bachelor of Education (Special Needs Education) with IT candidates must satisfy the university entry requirements i.e. a minimum Mean grade of C+ in KCSE or have two Principal Passes at KACE /EAACE or a Diploma from a recognized institution.

 

Programme Requirement

 A minimum mean grade of C+ in Biology

 

Duration of the Programme
The duration of the program shall normally be four (4) academic years.
Teaching methods in all units shall include lectures, field trips, tutorials, assignments, discussions, and practicals.

 

Degree Structure
All students in the department shall take their departmental courses as well as all Common courses offered by the faculty of education.

  1. Students in the department will take two teaching subjects. One from the department of special needs education and another from other departments, offering Arts or Science subjects
  2. All students in the department of special needs Education shall take common courses in the department of Special Education during the first and second year.
  3. A project or special paper in the area of specialization will be taken in the third year and this will be examined together with Introduction to research methods in Special Education.
  4. During the third and fourth years a student will continue to take higher level interdisciplinary courses leading to inclusive orientation but eventually specialize in any one of the following areas:
  1. Mentally Disability
  2. Hearing Disability
  3. Visually Disability
  4. Physical Disability
